Short answer: a good account purchase record names the exact account, the price and payment method, everything included, the handover steps in order, the conditions that must be true at handover, and what each side does if something fails. Write it before payment.
1. Identify the asset precisely
- Platform and current username, with a profile screenshot dated on the day of agreement.
- Follower count and key metrics as recorded on that date.
- Any linked accounts: Facebook Page, Business Manager, YouTube Brand Account, shop or website.
2. Price, payment and timing
State the total price, currency, payment method and when payment is due relative to handover. Buyers in the UK and Europe should also confirm whether the price includes any tax and whether an invoice will be issued.

3. What is included and what is not
| Item | Included? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Account login and recovery details | Yes | Email and phone changed to buyer |
| Original content files | Agree | Useful for re-editing and proving origin |
| Linked business assets | Agree | List each one by name |
| Brand deal contacts | Agree | Existing contracts may not transfer |
| Seller's other accounts | No | Unless named in writing |
4. Handover steps in order
- 1Seller confirms metrics and Account Status on a live recording.
- 2Buyer pays as agreed.
- 3Seller changes the recovery email and phone to the buyer's.
- 4Seller disables two-factor authentication; buyer re-enables it on their own device.
- 5Buyer confirms full control in writing, which closes the handover.
5. Conditions at handover
Write down what must still be true when control passes: same username, no new restrictions in Account Status, no deleted posts, and no new admins on linked assets. If any condition fails, the agreement should say what happens next.
6. Content rights and past obligations
Ask the seller to confirm whether the feed contains content they do not own, active sponsorships, or paid partnership labels. Advertising rules such as the FTC's endorsement guidance in the US apply to how sponsored posts are disclosed going forward.

7. Platform terms
Each platform has its own terms of use. A private agreement does not override them, so read the relevant terms and make a decision with that risk in mind.

Copy-and-use agreement checklist
- Account identified with dated evidence
- Price, currency, method, timing
- Included and excluded assets listed

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a written agreement to buy a social media account?
A written record is strongly recommended. Even a clear message thread or order confirmation listing the account, price, included assets and handover steps protects both sides far better than a verbal deal.
What should the agreement list as included?
The username, linked email and phone changes, any linked Facebook Page or business assets, content files, brand partnership contacts if any, and whether the seller will stop using similar names.
Is this legal advice?
No. This is a practical checklist. For high-value purchases, especially across borders such as US–UK or EU deals, ask a qualified lawyer to review the terms.
Does a contract make the transfer allowed by the platform?
No. A contract governs the deal between buyer and seller; it does not change the platform's own terms of use, which buyers should read before purchasing.
